35th Anniversary of the ADA

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), signed into law in 1990 by President Bush, marked a significant turning point in the disability rights movement. The ADA serves as a landmark piece of civil rights legislation, ensuring that people with disabilities have equal access, opportunities, and protection under the law.

Over the past three and a half decades, the ADA has advanced inclusion efforts like accessible transportation, inclusive education, and employment protections, contributing significantly to greater independence and a flourishing society.

Governor’s Proclamation
Governor Greg Abbott issued an official proclamation commemorating the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act on July 26, 2025. As a person with a disability himself, Governor Abbott emphasized that “disability does not define who we are as human beings.”
